flea markets+dead cameras

on saturday, we went to a flea market
and a GIANT antique store!
there were so many neat things.
naturally, my camera died after i took one picture.
but we are going flea marketing/thrift storing
(yes, those are verbs)
again soon.
hopefully, we can bring some things home to liven up our space!

until then...

j leaves his socks on the floor,
puts empty cereal boxes back in the cupboard,
and knocks pots of plants over.
once i find the socks/boxes/pots,
he looks at me like a guilty puppy.
it makes me laugh every time.
even if my tomato seedlings are on the ground rather than in a pot.

i feel like other bloggers write about the funny things their children do.
i will just continue to write about the funny things my husband does
until we have kids.

killer the catepillar

we have a pet!
welcome killer the caterpillar.
he is named killer because we found him...
killing our bell peppers.
but he is very useful as a scape (goat) caterpillar.
i already told mister c that killer finished the ice cream.
think he believes me?

books

we have some books
on our poorly organized entertainment center.
it WILL look great...eventually!

mister c was not much of a reader before
but i am changing his ways.
see that harry potter?
he is finally finishing the series.
hurrah!

ode to the car

dear rental car,
it was lovely getting to know you
and what it is like to have a great A.C.
and a radio that is not stuck on one station
and acceleration.
i loved pulling out of driveways really fast,
just because i could.
we will miss you.
back to driving the trusty (tank-like) benz.

love,
the collins

personality

i am taking a personality class.
we had to test this temperament test online.
and this is what mine said.
true? to me, yes.
then again, i think all my horoscopes are perfectly true too.
(p.s. that is an artistic rendition of the virgo symbol above)

you can find the test here
tell me if it got you right!
Idealists want to search for Self, to become themselves, to have a goal, a purpose in life, to be self-actualized, to be and become real, to be what they are meant to be and to have an identity which is uniquely theirs, to become self-actualized into a perfect whole and to have an identity which is perfectly unique, to have meaning, to have their significance appreciated, or at the very least, recognized as existing, to have integrity, that is unity, with no facade, no mask, no pretense, no sham, no playing of roles, to be genuine, to communicate authentically, to be in harmony with the inner experiences of self, to avoid a life of bad faith, to live a life of significance, making a difference in the world, to experience life as a drama, to be sensitive to the subtle gestures and metaphoric behavior in relationships, to help others become kinder, warmer, and more loving human beings, to reform the world, to romanticize their experiences, their lives, and the experiences and lives of others (Keirsey, 1984, pp. 57-66; cf., Heineman (NF)).

we love true food.

after our hike, we went to a d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s restaurant
called True Food.
it was fun to experience food done right-
local, organic, healthy, and yummy
without having to worry about yucky ingredients (ahem, shortening).
plus they grow their herbs right there in front of the restaurant!

day-cation

sooo...j had a test
(well, he has tests every monday)
but this one was especially hard.
so instead of a weekend vacation,
we took a day-cation.
and it was so worth it.

we went up to camp verde
in our little rental car
that gets air conditioning,
even when you are accelerating!

we hiked bell trail
and swam in the swimming hole.
some boy scouts were there
and it was funny to watch them jump off rocks...
screaming.

and we saw a RATTLESNAKE.
it was so scary!
and i am glad that he (or she) slithered into the grass as we passed.

here is the hole!

broken cars are sometimes a blessing

so we have this car.
this really old car
and we try not to drive it too far.

well, it is in the shop.
and we have a rental
and UNLIMITED MILES.
so we are extending the celebration
and going on a trip!

my day

21 years ago on this very day,
i was born.
and today, we celebrate.
mister c is making me raviolis
(from scratch!)
and we have cookies and cream ice cream
waiting in the freezer
to be devoured.
i love my life
and my husband
and good food.
